Epilepsy Focus Localisation PET/CT
In simple words
Between seizures, the misbehaving patch of brain uses less sugar than the tissue around it, and shows up as a cool spot on PET. That is often the only visible sign of a focus that MRI cannot see, and it can be the difference between lifelong medication and a curative operation.
Questions this scan answers
- Where exactly in the brain are the seizures starting?
- Could surgery cure this epilepsy?
The Prismaa difference
Subtle asymmetries are easily lost in a noisy image. Higher counts and better resolution make the comparison between the two sides genuinely reliable.
Usually recommended for
- Seizures not controlled despite two or more appropriate drugs
- Pre-surgical work-up in an epilepsy programme
- MRI-negative focal epilepsy
How to prepare
- Fast for 6 hours.
- Continue your anti-epileptic medication exactly as prescribed — do not stop it.
- Tell us the time of your most recent seizure; a very recent one changes how the scan is interpreted.
